The goal of this generation is to take the environmental & social ideals that Dr. Bronner espoused on his labels and apply them to our sphere of influence, for example by going both organic and fair trade. We know and do right by the farmers and workers who produce the materials that go into our soaps. Certified fair trade. 100% post-consumer recycled bottle. Fair for life. USDA organic. In the spirit of Dr. Emanuel Bronner's vision of constructive capitalism, Dr. Bronner's now sources all main ingredients from certified Fair Trade and organic sources. These are coconut, palm, olive, jojoba, hemp and mint oils that account together for over 95% of agricultural raw materials. Our goal of going organic and fair trade is to ensure that everyone along our supply chains - farmers, farm workers and workers in processing - receives fair compensation. Also all farming and processing should be done in a way that minimizes harm to the environment and sustains fertility and productivity of the land by organic means. The Bronner family does right by all its employees. Executive compensation is at 5 to 1, meaning that no one earns more than five times any other. All employees receive up to 25% of their salary as a bonus every year, get 15% of their salary as profit sharing for retirement, and have 100% free health care for themselves and their families. No detergents. Organic shikakai comes from the seed pods of the small south Asian tree acacia concinna, and has been used for over 1000 years in India as a gentle conditioning cleanser for both skin and hair. We extract the shikakai in organic sugar and grape juice which have excellent humectant (moisturizing) qualities, and combine with Dr. Bronner's castile soap base for rich emollient lather. Over 150 years & 5 generations of soap excellence. Certified under the USDA national organic program. No foaming agents. 100% biodegradable. Did you know that organic sugar is one of the best things you can use on your skin? The reason is that it is a natural humectant. Whereas salt pulls water out of the skin, sugar puts it back in, so in addition to giving our soaps a wonderful caramel aroma and color, they also make sure that the skin of your face and body is hydrated and super-soft and smooth. Dr. Bronner's was founded in 1948 by Dr. Emanuel Bronner (1909-1997), a third generation master-soapmaker from a German Jewish soapmaking family that first started manufacturing soap in 1858. Driven by the holocaust that claimed his parents and cold war that threatened his children, Dr. Bronner urgently spread his message that we must realize our transcendent unity across religious and ethnic divides or we will perish: We are all one or none! IMO's Fair For Life certification is the fair trade gold standard that focuses on entire companies and all their major ingredient supply chains. Fair for Life distinguishes fully dedicated fair trade brands versus those offering just a few fair trade products often with minimal fair trade content. Fair Trade Olive Oil: Olive oil imparts velvety smoothness to our soaps. In early 2007, Dr. Bronner's began sourcing 90% of our olive oil needs from Palestinian producers near the west bank town of Jenin. There, the trading firm Canaan Fair Trade was founded by Palestinians who support peaceful co-existence with Israel and see profitable olive farming as one means of improving Palestinians' economic situation. In honor of Dr. Bronner and the peace that the olive tree symbolizes, we source olive oil from Israel as well. The Jewish Israeli Strauss family are pioneers in organic olive oil production and are related to the Bronner family; and the balance of our olive oil comes from Sindyanna, a Fair Trade business run by Jewish and Arab women in Israel that supports Arab-Israeli producers. Fair Trade Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax with a unique molecular structure similar to key moisturizers in the skin's sebum. Indians of the Sonoran desert where jojoba is native have used jojoba oil for centuries as a daily moisturizer for skin, scalp and hair. Serindipia jojoba was founded by Dr. Bronner's in partnership with the Com'caac Indians on their land in the Mexican Sonoran desert, where jojoba seeds are wild harvested sustainably by tribe members who receive excellent prices, wages and benefits. Fair Deal Hemp Oil: Dr. Bronner's uses Canadian hemp oil as a superfatting ingredient in all our soaps because of its unsurpassed essential fatty acid (EFA) content. Fair Deal is the developed world's counterpart to Fair Trade, which is geared towards developing countries. The Fair Deal program ensures that farmers receive a fair price for their organic crops and farmworkers fair wages and working conditions for their labor. Dr. Bronner's is working to change outmoded US policy to allow American farmers to grow industrial hemp again. Fair Trade Coconut Oil: Our Serendipol project in Sri Lanka has become the world's foremost source of certified organic and fair trade virgin coconut oil (VCO). It not only supplies Dr. Bronner's growing demand for cosmetics grade coconut oil, which gives our soaps its rich and cleansing lather, but also supplies premium quality oil for Dr. Bronner's own line of food grade VCO. We pay our family farmers and workers fair prices and wages, and supply organic compost and training to improve soil fertility. The fair trade premium funds community needs such as medical equipment for local hospitals. www.drbronner.com. Oregon Tilth certified organic. Made in the USA.

Ingredients

Organic Sucrose, * Organic White Grape Juice, Organic Coconut Oil, * Organic Palm Kernel Oil, * Potassium Hydroxide, ** Organic Olive Oil, * Organic Shikakai Powder, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol.

Directions

Organic Hair Care in 3 Easy Steps: 1. Shampoo with your favorite Dr. Bronner's soap. True soaps clean hair well but can leave a tangly look & feel; however - 2. Rinsing with our Organic Shikakai Conditioning Rinse results in spectacular look and feel! Just stir 1-2 capfuls of this rinse into a cup of water, close eyes and slowly pour while massaging into hair. Keep hand combing hair until hair feels entirely sleek (about 30 seconds). Rinse out well. Repeat if necessary in extra hard water conditions or with longer hair. 3. After drying lightly with a towel, massage in Dr. Bronner's USDA organic leave-in conditioning creme for added silkiness and softness.

Warnings

Caution! Keep out of eyes: wash with water 15 min. and consult a physician if irritation persists. Do not refill with Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 pure-castile liquid soaps, which can clog the dispenser. In this formula, the shikakai extracted in organic natural sugars also keeps the pump from clogging.
